Dholera Connectivity – Airport, Expressway & Metro Projects
Strategic Location and Infrastructure Vision
Dholera Smart City is set to become the next big business hub of India, and its connectivity plans are the primary component of that dream. It lies in Gujarat, approximately 100km away from Ahmedabad, and can be easily reached by road, air, metro, trucks, and docks. Such a variety of transportation solutions makes Dholera not just a city, but a future shipping, residential, and factory center.
Prime Location with Natural Advantage
Dholera is partly an island along the Gulf of Khambhat. This form renders it environmentally and transportation-friendly. The region is surrounded by:
East: Gulf of Khambhat
North: Bavaliari Creek
South: Sonaria Creek
Its proximity to Ahmedabad, major highways, ports, and the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) are making it an excellent location to have large factories, trade, and urban development.
Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway
The Expressway project between Ahmedabad and Dholera (110km) is one of the most significant ones.
It will provide a signal-free, high-speed road between Ahmedabad and Dholera.
It will also accelerate daily commutes and freight, as people will be able to travel in less than an hour.
It belongs to the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor connecting Dholera to the most active trade corridors in India.
To keep up with time, a number of construction sections are currently in progress.
The expressway will create openness in real estate and industry in Dholera as it will provide quick access to the economic hub in Gujarat.
Plot Plans
Dholera International Airport
The new Dholera International Airport (DIA) will be among the largest new airports in India.
Location: Approximately 20 km near Dholera SIR towards Navagam village. Development Authority: Dholera International Airport Company Ltd. (AAI + Government of Gujarat + NICDC). Features: It will be equipped with two runways (constructed in phases) with modern passenger terminals equipped with special cargo facilities to export goods. Timeline: The initial stage is expected to commence in 2026, with operations including both domestic and international flights. Capacity: The airport is designed to accommodate 50 million customers annually.
This airport will ease the traffic in Ahmedabad Airport and make Dholera an international entry point to industry, exports, and tourism.
Metro Rail Connectivity
An expressway will be followed by using a metro rail line connecting Gandhinagar to Ahmedabad to Dholera.
Purpose: To provide quick, reliable, and green urban commuting between Ahmedabad and Dholera.
Status: Detailed project report is contained, and approvals are underway.
Impact: It will reduce travel expenses, alleviate traffic congestion, and make the houses of Dholera more attractive to the working population.
As the area will get more urban, this metro line will be one of the primary supports of the easy day-to-day movement.
Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC)
Dholera is within 100 km of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, giving industries direct access to high-speed rail freight routes. This proximity means faster, cost-efficient movement of raw materials and finished goods to northern and western markets. Industries in Dholera will enjoy an unparalleled logistics edge, improving turnaround times and competitiveness.
Seaport Access
Dholera is also close to several major ports, including Pipavav, Bhavnagar, and Dahej. This gives the region excellent maritime connectivity for export-import activities. For industries like manufacturing, EV, aerospace, and green energy, proximity to seaports significantly lowers logistics costs.
Smart Infrastructure for Seamless Movement
Every mode of transport in Dholera is part of an integrated master plan:
Expressways connect the city to major economic centers.
Metro and road networks enable smooth intra-city and intercity movement.
Airports and ports open direct global trade links.
DFC proximity ensures industries are plugged into India’s freight backbone.
This level of planned multi-modal integration is rarely seen in Indian cities.
Investment Potential and Opportunities
Dholera’s connectivity is directly tied to its investment appeal. With the expressway, airport, and metro in motion, industries are lining up to set up manufacturing units, logistics hubs, and R&D centers. Real estate developers are also investing in residential plots and commercial spaces near major connectivity zones to capture early growth.
Key sectors showing interest include:
Electric vehicles and batteries
Renewable energy
Pharmaceuticals and biotech
Aerospace and defense
IT and data centers
Textiles and logistics
Government-backed infrastructure ensures these projects progress on schedule, increasing investor confidence.
Sustainability and Urban Mobility
Connectivity projects in Dholera aren’t just about speed—they’re built with sustainability in mind:
The metro corridor supports low-carbon commuting.
Expressways are integrated with stormwater and utility ducts to reduce environmental impact.
Airport development follows greenfield standards with efficient land use.
This aligns with Dholera’s broader smart city vision, combining mobility, technology, and sustainability.

Dholera is connected through State Highways and the upcoming Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway. Internal roads inside Dholera SIR are already planned with wide infrastructure for industrial and residential movement.
The Dholera International Airport is under development near the SIR region. Phase 1 is expected to become operational in the coming years, which will significantly improve both domestic and international connectivity.
Yes, a proposed rail connection between Ahmedabad and Dholera is part of the long-term infrastructure plan. This will improve accessibility for workforce, industries, and daily commuters.
Dholera is strategically located near major industrial developments like the Tata Semiconductor Plant and renewable energy zones, making connectivity strong from an industrial growth perspective.
Right now, it’s more suitable for long-term investment rather than daily commuting. But with expressways, airports, and planned rail connectivity, it is expected to become more practical for living in the future.
Improved connectivity—especially expressway, airport, and industrial corridors—usually drives demand. As infrastructure becomes operational, land value appreciation is expected to follow.
TP zones closer to the expressway, airport corridor, and main arterial roads generally have better connectivity potential. Investors often prefer these locations for long-term growth.
