Dholera Metro City: DFC Project Details – Key Highlights of DMIC in Gujarat
The Government of India has launched an ambitious infrastructure initiative — the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) between Delhi and Mumbai. This high-axle, state-of-the-art railway connectivity is equipped with computerized control systems and multi-modal linkages.
Out of the total DFC length of 1,483 km, approximately 38% passes through Gujarat, making it a critical zone for development. A 150-km belt on both sides of the DFC is designated for industrial development under the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) — one of the largest infrastructure projects in India.
Plot Plans
Why Gujarat is at the Core of DMIC?
Nearly one-third of the total $90 billion DMIC investment is expected to take place in Gujarat, positioning it as a strategic state for industrial and economic growth. Within the DMIC framework:
24 Mega Industrial Nodes are planned along the corridor
6 Mega Nodes (including 4 Industrial Areas and 2 Investment Regions) are located in Gujarat
Dholera Metro City and Dholera SIR are among the first nodes being developed
These nodes are envisioned to become global hubs for manufacturing and trade, supported by world-class infrastructure and policy frameworks.
Several key DFC junctions in Gujarat are planned to interconnect industrial areas, ports, and smart cities like Dholera Metro City and Dholera Nano City. These include:
Key Stats of DMIC Influence Area:
Gothangam – Connecting KRIBHCO, steel plants, Dahej Port, Bharuch-Dahej Investment Region, and Surat–Navsari Industrial Region
Makarpura – Serving the Vadodara–Bharuch Industrial Area, Dahej Port, and other adjoining regions
Anand – Gateway to Ahmedabad–Dholera Investment Region and ports like Pipavav and Bhavnagar
Mehsana & Palanpur – Linking to Kutch ports (Kandla, Mundra, Gandhidham) and the Mehsana Industrial Area
These DFC junctions are set to transform Dholera Metro City and nearby regions into high-impact economic zones, boosting connectivity, logistics, and exports.
Current Status of the DFC Project in Gujarat
1. Contract Awards
A major Design and Build Contract has been awarded for constructing 54 key bridges on the Western DFC corridor (between Vaitarana and Surat), covering around 200 km. This contract is valued at approximately ₹600 Crores, indicating strong execution momentum.
2. Land Acquisition Progress
Land acquisition notifications have been issued for 309 km out of the total 565 km DFC route in Gujarat.
Under the Railways Act, the land acquisition process must be completed within one year from notification, ensuring timely execution of the DFC alignment.

Dholera SIR FAQs
The DFC (Dedicated Freight Corridor) project is a major railway infrastructure initiative that creates dedicated tracks for freight trains, reducing congestion and improving goods movement across major industrial routes in India.
DFC stands for Dedicated Freight Corridor, a railway system designed specifically for freight transport to increase speed, efficiency, and capacity.
DFCCIL (Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited) is the government organization responsible for planning, building, and operating the DFC corridors across India.
The DFC route map includes two major corridors — the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (Dadri to Mumbai) and the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (Punjab to West Bengal), connecting key industrial and logistics zones.
The DFC project is currently partially operational. Several sections are already active, while the remaining stretches are under construction and progressing in phases.
The DFC project is not fully completed yet. While some sections are operational, a significant portion is still under construction, with phased completion expected in the coming years.
You can download the DFC route map PDF from official government or DFCCIL websites, where detailed maps, reports, and project updates are available.
DFC railway lines are used only for freight trains, allowing higher speed and heavier loads. Normal railway lines carry both passenger and freight trains, which often leads to congestion and delays.
